S.A.TITLES 2010 Road Trip – as soon as someone says those words you know you're in for a good weekend. And with the South Australian Titles on offer for the end of August, how could we refuse! It's a 7-8 hour drive from Melbourne across to Adelaide, but with 3 people on board sharing the driving its not too bad, and you get to drive through some of the fabulous scenery and farmland of the Victorian western districts. | | | Passengers get to see this. | The drivers only see this. |
It wouldn't be an rc-mini trip without copious latte stops, and before we even set off Tony P had planned our route carefully to take in as many McCafé's as possible. There was a likely 2 hour stretch between Horsham and Murray Bridge that looked latte-less, but we reckoned we'd cope. Our 6 am start was put back an hour when Tim phoned from on the road saying that his Smart Car had poohed itself and was down to 2 cylinders. When you've only got 3 to begin with that can be an issue. Eventually we (Tony G, Tim and Tony P) set off from Tims parents house an hour late at 7.00 am. First Latte stop was 20 mins up the road at Melton, and then we settled into the routine. We quickly began the traditional road trip activity of 'talking shit' something that would serve us well during the following 7+ hours. |

MINI NATS 2010 In the beginning it was just an idea, nothing more."Hey why don’t we run a Nationals, just for Minis!"
And I have to say I was personally somewhat lukewarm to Tony P's idea initially. Running Mini 50 last year had put me off doing big events forever. But he wouldn't let go and eventually I caved in, as much to shut him up as anything else. But where to hold such an event? Melbourne is the undisputed home (participation wise) of Mini racing in Australia, but for the event to truly be a National Championship we needed somewhere accessible to all. Preferably between Melbourne and Sydney. Simple answer – Wodonga. One of our favourite tracks anyway, and Wodonga prime mover Rod Warren couldn't put his hand up quickly enough to say yes. |
